One Piece Live-Action (Season One Thoughts)

I’ll try to keep this short because most One Piece fans have already watched at least some of OPLA. If you loved it, great! I’m with you. If you hated it, great! Stick with the manga and/or anime.

Seriously, as someone who doesn’t watch the anime on a regular basis due to its slow pacing, I get it. The One Piece manga/anime is created for Japanese boys. One Piece Live-Action is made for a broader audience. It’s also tasked with fitting an entire arc into eight episodes. Entire scenes, characters, and plots had to be cut to make it work. And, I think it does work. It works surprising well. But, yeah, that all depends on someone’s personal opinions about One Piece. So, if you didn’t like the changes or what was cut, I understand why you’re not feeling it.

Stain Remover [My Hero Academia 401]

This fight’s just dumb.

I know you’ve seen it before. A manga/anime fight that goes on for so long it’s becomes absolutely ridiculous. Whether it be constant power-ups, cliffhangers, or last-minute saves, the longer a fight goes, the dumber it gets. All Mech VS All For One, has indeed, went on for too long.

We get it. AFO is unstoppable. And, yes, the main point of the fight is damaging AFO enough for Eri’s Rewind to finish him off. Still, AFO expunges all of his blood to counter Stain’s quirk with a quirk specifically able to do that? Come the hell on, Horikoshi! That’s just too much. Oh! But we’re not done, because AFO can apparently change his blood type.

Look, I like the explanation that the blood type quirk helped him hide in the shadows but that doesn’t take away from it being ridiculous. Again, we shouldn’t have gotten to this point or AFO’s counter to Stain should’ve been less jarring. Sure, AFO was planning ahead but that whole scene left a bad taste in my mouth. And it tastes like demon lord bodily fluid. Next chapter, I’m bringing my umbrella.

He’s also in range of the only Whataburger still open. Decisions. Decisions…

Stain is dead. No surprise there. Stain was the type of character who’s destined to go out in a blaze of glory. Well, in this case, a blaze of failure. Anyway, he died for All Might, so good for him?

Captain Crack Head VS Admiral Stoner [One Piece 1093]

Say no to drugs, kids.

Or, yes. It depends on the drug. Illegal drugs aren’t good for you. Aspirin is a legal drug. But don’t smoke it! Anyway, Gear 5 Luffy VS Still Not Fully Serious Admiral Kizaru revs up. Kinda.

Oda seems to be slowly building up the main fight of the arc. Classic shonen stuff. It also signals this arc could last longer than we think. Especially, now that Team Luffy has separated.

Zoro VS Rob Lucci. Zoro fights the second strongest person in an arc. Is that Lucci? At the moment, yes. But, what about the Seraphim? Could Lucci simply be round one? I’m gonna say, yes. As much as Lucci’s improved, I see Oda ending this arc with a weakened Zoro battling the Seraphim, specifically, S-Hawk.

Created by Momose Wataru, Me And My Gangster Neighbour is a manga series about an elementary boy, named Yuuhi and his apartment complex neighbor, Mr. Aoi. Due to an unexcepted event, Yuuhi discovers Mr. Aoi’s secrets: one, that he’s a gangster and, two, he loves cute things. Yuuhi agrees to keep his secrets and a friendship is born.

One big theme of MAMGN (Me And My Gangster Neighbour) is acceptance. Yuuhi accepting Mr. Aoi for who his is as well as his Uncle are good examples of that. It’s not always easy living your life in contrast to what society says is normal. I love how the manga explores that without sounding preachy. People are who they are and that’s that. It’s simple but effective storytelling.

The Enhancers’ Adventure Starts Here

Here it is! The very first chapter of my story: The Enhancers: Never Fight Friends Alone! Be the first person in your neighborhood to read the greatest story about four kids with power bracelets trying to protect their home, Aquamarine City. Well, maybe, not “protect”, but they do live there. Hey! I never said they were heroes.

Only one quirk left for All Mech to copy.

Bakugo’s Explosion quirk is all All Might has to stall All For One with. Interesting how it’s the one quirk that could also be interpreted as All Might’s mech suit self-destructing. Did you see All Might rushing at AFO at the end of the chapter? Either he’s trying to use Explosion at point-blank range or he’s gonna blow himself up. …Maybe both.

I think we all knew Stain was gonna step in at some point. Horikoshi made a point of showing him following All Might several chapters ago. Seeing Stain flying on a glider that looks similar to All Mech’s gadgets has me guessing the two worked out some kind of a plan before AFO showed up.

Admiral Kizaru’s Kickstarter [One Piece 1092]

Gear 4 against Admiral Kizaru? Seriously?

Come on! You know better than that, Luffy. In fact, I don’t blame you. I blame Oda for wanting to end this chapter on a Gear 5 cliffhanger at logic’s expense.

Jewelry Bonney got the snot kicked out of her! I guess she fell down to the Fabriophase. Just her and that awakening Ancient Robot. Get in that robot and go Gundam on the Navy, Bonney!

The Ancient Robot is powered by toon force. It’s giant mallet and ACME bombs will come in handy.

Anyone Got A Light? [My Hero Academia 399]

Is Kunieda the last powerful Tartarus escapee?

I guess so. Too bad. Seems like the Tartarus escapees were mostly just fodder to wear out Deku. There was a real opportunity to see a lot more powerful villains with crazy quirks. Oh well, I’m grateful for the ones we got.

The Aoyama/Hagakure team-up attack was great! Y’All know I’m a sucker for combo moves. Still, I don’t think it was worth the wait. Anyway, with the Kunieda fight over, that leaves only All For One and Shigaraki to deal with. We’re really nearing the end of the road, my friends.

The blast also blew up the DMV. Good job, All Might!

Still, I don’t think you’re worthy of getting the chapter named after you. We did see your (short) backstory, so I guess that’s fine. Hey? Was Sentomaru’s backstory the first time we’ve seen Admiral Kizaru laugh? I think so.

Bye-bye, Sea Beast Weapons! Watch out, Navy. Animal-cyborg rights groups are gonna flip out once they find out. Talk about a PR nightmare! But, at least the Navy now controls of the PX-IIIs. Guess we’ll see them again during the final war playing a similar back-up role like the OG Pacifistas during the Marineford War.
